DENVER, Oct. 28, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – SolRiver Capital, a national solar investment fund, today announced the acquisition of a portfolio of large-scale solar PV projects in the state of North Carolina from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (“CIP”). The portfolio includes eight projects across North Carolina, totaling 53 MW. Each project should initially operate under a power purchase contract with the local utility. When completed, the projects will produce more than 91 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity per year, enough to power more than 7,700 homes each year and the carbon equivalent sequestered by planting more than one million trees.

Just last year, Duke Energy and third-party solar developers, as well as industry organizations, entered into several agreements to speed up and reduce interconnection costs for large-scale solar installations in North and South Carolina. These agreements include the facilitation of additional solar interconnections through a defined process and schedule, as well as the reform of the interconnection queue process by moving to a cluster study model. This updated process is essential for SolRiver to bring high quality solar projects to this region.

“North Carolina continues to be a strong market for SolRiver,” said Riley Sullivan, vice president of acquisitions at SolRiver Capital. “What really secured this deal is our expertise in developing and building successfully, informed by the last few years of building these types of systems in the Carolinas.”

Additionally, this announcement follows the recent adoption of HB 951 by North Carolina Energy Solutions for North Carolina, which sets targets for the state’s electricity sector to reduce emissions of 70% carbon by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. SolRiver’s investment includes a series of PURPA solar projects to provide electricity as part of the growing mix of renewable energy generation. North Carolina.

SolRiver’s investment in the portfolio, which is expected to exceed $ 90 million, will contribute to the local and regional clean energy economy through additional tax revenues, as well as the temporary and permanent jobs created throughout. construction and operation of projects.
