MPR Chairman calls for tough action against fraudulent online loans

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The President of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Bambang Soesatyo has called for strict action against fraudulent online loan providers due to their still high prevalence.

According to information from the Youth Advocate Association, hundreds of reports have been received from citizen victims of fraudulent online loan providers, Soesatyo noted in a statement written here on Saturday.

The MPR speaker believed that digital crimes, such as fraudulent online lending, cannot simply be considered local crimes.

“It has become a transnational crime involving administrators and fund holders from various countries. It has also disrupted Indonesia’s cybersecurity system and violated consumer protection law and data privacy law,” a- he stressed.

The modus operandi used to offer fraudulent online loans is that they involve high interest rates as well as debt collectors threatening their victims, and it is not uncommon for them to steal data from cell phones. of their victims, said Soesatyo.

“It should have been easy to trace and initiate legal proceedings in such situations. One cannot get the impression that the State, through the ministries or authorized institutions, authorizes the presence of credit providers. fraudulent online, ”he said.

To that end, the police should respond quickly to fraudulent online loan cases, he noted.

“Police should be the vanguard in leading efforts to stamp out fraudulent online loans,” he said.

Soesatyo claimed that if necessary, the House of Representatives (DPR) can design a new bill regulating online lending with the government.

“It is not enough to manage this at the working group level,” Soesatyo noted, referring to the Investment Alert Task Force.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics should also urge app store and game store owners to remove fraudulent online loan applications from their stores, as citizens consider every online loan service request. in these stores as legal, underlined the spokesman of the MPR.
