Imagine the excitement of getting ready and ready to adopt this puppy you’ve got your eyes on. Come on, I know you know that feeling I’m talking about.
That’s what a Detroit native felt while looking for a new dog. Only she didn’t really get what she thought she had.
It’s also ironic because something similar happened to my cousin. She was supposed to have a kitten, however, she was injured having a puppy because of a communication problem from someone whose English was not very good.
A woman named Monica from Detroit said she thought she bought a dog at the Papaya Fruit Market in Detroit, but was a little shocked a few weeks later. Monica said she was told what she was given was a German Shepherd puppy.
“It was making a weird noise… it’s already funny, so we just thought… maybe something was wrong, we took it to the vet,” WSYM said through Monica.
The news she received, however, was not what she expected.
The vet immediately noticed what Monica had told the vet when they arrived, saying it was not a German Shepherd. The vet ended up doing some blood work but said from the look and way he acted it was most likely a hyena.
Unfortunately, the vet called Animal Control when they found out what the animal was.
Monica couldn’t stay, however, fearing they would kill the animal.
“Sometimes she acts like a cat, like when I sleep… it’s like an ordinary animal,” admitted Monica. “I feel like my animals are my children.
Monica worries that the market man has given a hyena to a ton of other people, without their knowledge.
There are no restrictions or laws against owning a hyena here in the state of Michigan, and no permit or license would be required if one did. However, we must also take into account local restrictions and national restrictions.
Hyenas are also not legal to own in the city of Detroit.
“Anything that you would see free in the wild, anything that might appear in a zoo or a circus, the rule is that these will not be acceptable in an ordinary house.
Monica admitted that she actually intended to fight for the hyena.
