HCM CITY – The demand for goods in HCM City is gradually increasing before the Early holidays (Lunar New Year) thanks to promotions and greater diversity of products than last year.
Although there is more than a month left for the biggest festival of the year, the retail chains of Saigon Co.op Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food and Co.opSmile have started to to propose Early already discounts.
Products such as cosmetics, cleaning products, personal care and beauty products, and foods that can be stored for a long time without spoiling are now sold at a discount, so customers don’t need to buy only fresh food or ready-to-eat dishes before Early.
NgÃ´ Thá» Vi from BÃ¬nh Tháº¡nh district said she was buying Early products early in Saigon Co. op supermarkets, as many of them, such as confectionery, fish sauce and cooking oil, were sold at discounts of 5 to 20 percent.
Other promotions such as the offer of gifts, higher than normal loyalty points and gift certificates are also regularly implemented.
City officials have urged businesses to ensure there is an adequate supply and to offer promotions for Early while following the pandemic prevention measures.
Phan Thá» Tháº¯ng, vice president of the city’s People’s Committee, said that although the COVID-19 outbreak has been largely contained, the situation remains delicate.
Companies are expected to step up production to secure supply, restore disrupted supply chains involving other provinces, and offer various purchasing methods and experiences, she said.
A spokesperson for Saigon Co. op said the volume of goods stored for Early was up 20 to 35 percent from normal months, with the largest increases recorded in food and other essentials.
Táº¡ Thá» Minh Há»£p, director of supply for the VinMart / VinMart + retail system, said demand for the Lunar New Year would be slightly lower than the previous year as the pandemic had hit revenues and people’s jobs.
Consumers would tend to focus on basic products such as fresh produce, essentials and typical products. Early items such as sweets, beer, soft drinks and wine, she said.
âThe VinMart / VinMart + retail system has been working with major suppliers since September to order key products for the period.
“Early sales are expected to be 40-50% higher than normal days. “
The city called on distributors and manufacturers to launch promotions and prioritize online sales and non-cash payments.
It holds the annual promotion fair from December 21 to 26 at PhÃº Thá» sports stadium in District 11 with more than 450 stalls featuring consumer goods, agricultural and craft products and the city’s 50% limit on discounts removed.
Participating companies must ensure the origin and quality of the products.
